Identifying Raccoon Nesting Signs
Raccoons are especially hard to detect because they are dexterous nocturnal climbers that can pry up loose soffits, peel back shingles, and use overhanging limbs to slip into attics or wall voids, a pattern that often shows up in New Orleans homes during fall as mothers seek sheltered den sites for their young. LaJaunie’s Pest Control knows how to spot early raccoon activity by identifying species-specific entry damage, denning behavior, and contamination before it spreads deeper into the home.
Common indicators that raccoon control have entered your home include:
- Hearing heavy thumping or deliberate walking sounds above the ceiling, especially in the attic or over second-floor rooms at night.
- Finding tipped insulation, torn duct wrap, or disturbed stored items in the attic where raccoons have created a den or travel path.
- Noticing a strong musky ammonia-like odor near attic access points, wall voids, or garage ceilings from accumulated raccoon urine and feces.
- Seeing muddy paw prints or dark smudge marks along soffits, fascia boards, rooflines, or around attic vents used as entry routes.
- Discovering tubular raccoon droppings in the attic, on rooftops, or at the base of a chimney where they establish repeat latrine sites.
Raccoon control typically begins with a full wildlife inspection followed by a customized plan that may include humane or lethal trapping when necessary, exclusion of active entry points, roof vent sealing, soffit and fascia repairs, repellant barriers, and attic remediation or sanitization. As part of LaJaunie’s wildlife control service, a state-certified inspector evaluates the yard, eaves, crawlspace, AC voids, interior voids, and attic, documents findings with photos, and builds a solution designed to restore structural protection and lasting peace of mind.
Residential Wildlife Control
Your home is protected from raccoons by the Wildlife Exclusion Program. Your attic, eaves, roof vents and crawlspaces are sealed with cement and steel to stop denning and re-entry. Your property gets exclusion coverage with optional trapping, attic remediation and a 1-year warranty against the original raccoon.
You get your home back from raccoon disruptions, with a customized plan backed by a 1-year warranty after a 1.5–2 hour full-property inspection and documented quote.
How we provide reliable raccoon control and removal
-
How we work
Our raccoon control process begins with a thorough inspection from our local pest experts, which is crucial as raccoons seek shelter in Louisiana attics and crawlspaces during the fall.
After identifying the issue, our pest management plan moves to humane trapping and removal, which can include, for example, three consecutive daily visits to check and rebait traps to ensure a swift resolution.
Finally, we provide lasting peace of mind through exclusion work, where we seal off all potential entry points with durable materials like steel and cement to prevent any future wildlife from getting in.
